G. Kumar Naik, a retired IAS officer, has made a successful debut in electoral politics by winning the Lok Sabha election from the Raichur constituency on a Congress ticket. In his maiden parliamentary contest, he defeated Raja Amareshwar Naik, the candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, by a decisive margin of 79,781 votes.
